Start with what matters to you
Think about the support you want, the routines that are important to you and the way you prefer people to communicate. You can also consider whether you want support close to home, help to take part in the community, or support connected to a particular goal.
Questions you can ask
You are allowed to ask questions before deciding whether to work with a provider.
- What services do you offer, and are they available in my area?
- How will you communicate with me and involve the people I choose?
- How do you match support workers and respond if something changes?
- How can I give feedback or make a complaint?
- What information do you need before confirming whether the service is suitable?
Take your time
You do not have to make a decision during the first conversation. It is okay to ask for information in a format that works for you, talk it through with someone you trust, or contact more than one provider.
